There are several ways to create an array of lines in QGIS. In this article, we will show you how to generate an array of lines horizontally and vertically in QGIS. At least there are two tools that we can use to create the array of lines. Depending on what you need, these tools have different results when we use them. We will discuss both tools here and see the differences between them.
The array of Translated Features
The first tool that we are going to use is called “Array of translated features”. This tool will create an array of lines at a specific distance. Also, we can specify how many lines we want to create. We can use 4 different axis using this tool. For example, if we want to generate lines horizontally, we can set the X-axis distance and leave the rest 0.
Below, I want to create copies of features in my “Lines” layer with the following settingss:
- Number of features to create: 10
- Step distance (x-axis): 1000 meters
And this is the result. Please note that the blue line is the original line and the red line is the result.
Now let’s try something else.
- Number of features to create: 10
- Step distance (x-axis): 1000 meters
- Step distance (y-axis): 500 meters
Result:
Array of offset (parallel) lines
The next tool we can use to create an array of lines is “Array of offset (parallel) lines“. This tool will create parallel lines at a specific distance. Let’s try to use the following settings:
- Number of features to create: 10
- Offset step distance: 500 meters
Result:
