This is my first tutorial on Mapinfo. As you might know, Mapinfo Discover is now becoming Datamine Discover 2017 after Datamine bought the Pitney Bowes Mapinfo Suite. Mapinfo is a great GIS software that is common in various business such as Exploration and Mining business. On this post, I am going to create a new table on Mapinfo. Mapinfo also supports many file formats such as shapefile, csv, dxf and many more. In some cases, we will need to create a native Mapinfo table. Please follow the steps below to create a new Mapinfo table.
Steps to create New Mapinfo Table
Open Mapinfo (Datamine Discover) and then go to File | New Table. You can also use CTRL + N to open this new table dialog window.
Select the option “Open New Browser” and also “Open New Mapper” as above and press Create. On the next window, we need to create new table structure. Add some fields to your new table. In this example, I add two fields called: ID and Name. Do not forget to change the field name, type, and width. This fields will be used to store some information of your new table.
Next, click Projection to specify the projection of our table. You will need to choose the projection from the list. If you want more information about Projections, please open Mapinfo Help topic and search for Projection. You will find a detailed information about projection in Mapinfo.
After we select the projection, now we need to save our new table.
Click Save and now our new table is ready.
Now our table is ready for further use. As you can see, we have two window opened, Mapper and Browser. You can start digitize objects on the Mapper window.
You can see the entire process of creating a new table on Mapinfo from the following animated gif image.
