Hello everyone, welcome to ArcGIS Pro Tutorial for Beginners. In this article, we will learn how to create a regular polygon grid on ArcGIS Pro. So what we are going to do here is to divide a large polygon into smaller polygons of the same size.
In the following example, I have a large polygon and I want to make or divide this polygon into smaller polygons.
The final result will be something like this
So let’s get started.
First, open the polygon that we will use as the extent. You can use an existing polygon or polyline. You can also create a new polygon if you don’t have it already. And then, open the “Create Fishnet” tool from the geoprocessing tool.
We need to specify the following:
Output Feature Class
Type or specify the output feature class.
Fishnet Origin Coordinate
We can specify the origin coordinate of the fishnet. The fishnet will be created from this origin point/coordinate.
Template Extent
The extent that we want to create the regular polygons. You can select a layer and use its extent or specify it manually.
Cell Size Width and Height
We need to specify the cell size or polygon size we want to create.
Number of Rows and Number of Column
Instead of specifying the cell size, we can also specify the number of rows and columns.
Create Label Points
Check this option if you want to create label points on the center of each polygon we created.
Geometry Type
Choose the geometry type of the output. It supports polygon and polyline.
