Working with MapInfo Professional is a fun. We can easily import and export our data to another formats. On this tutorial, I am going to show you how to import Google KML/KMZ file into MapInfo Professional. MapInfo Professional comes with Universal Translator tool that helps us to convert/import data from various datasets. The new version of Universal Translator has better user interface and easier to use. The new version is called FME Quick Translator.
Steps to Import Google KML to Mapinfo Professional
First, open Mapinfo Professional and then go to Tools | Universal Translator | Universal Translator. The FME Quick Translator will open up.
Select Google KML from the list and then browse to your KML/KMZ file. On the writer, specify the destination format. On this example, I choose MapInfo TAB file. Don’t forget to specify the destination folder.
Press OK when ready. If you have multiple datasets, you can specify how this translator handles the datasets. You may select to Merge the multiple sources to one destination or separate destination for each source dataset.
Make sure there are no errors upon completion.
