Welcome to another Mapinfo Tutorial for Beginners. In some cases, you may want to update the coordinates of your table in MapInfo. For example, let’s say you have a point layer. This layer has a corresponding attribute X and Y data attached to it. And then, you move the points from the map window. When you move objects in the map window, the attribute data will not change unless you update it manually. There is an easy way to update the X and Y columns on Mapinfo.
Another example, let’s say you have a point layer in UTM WGS84 projection. And then, you want to generate coordinate for each object in the layer in a different projection, for example, Longitude Latitude format. It is pretty easy to update coordinates in MapInfo Professional. See the following example.
Steps to Update Coordinates in MapInfo Professional
First, open the table in MapInfo. In this example, I have a point table as follow. You may use your own table to practice. So let’s call it the original table, showing some points. You can see the table browser as well.
As you can see, I have a browser window and a map window showing some points. Now, I will move some points to a new location and then update the coordinate to reflect the changes.
To update the coordinate in MapInfo, please follow these steps
- Go to Discover >> Update Coordinates
- Select the table to update
- Select the projection
- Specify the update mode. In this case, choose Map Object –> Table Column
- Select the field assignment for each column X and Y
- Press OK
Watch the entire process below
That’s it. I hope you enjoy the tutorial and see you next time. Cheers
