#Update: ArcGIS Pro 2.9 Patch 5 is now available. Full fix for the Symbology issue.
Today is October 13, 2022. One of my colleagues told me that he can’t use Symbology in his ArcGIS Pro 2.9.4. His ArcGIS Pro always crashes every time he tries to use Symbology. It’s a bit odd because I was fairly sure that I had no problem with it. But the next morning I use my ArcGIS Pro, and I got the same error, ArcGIS Pro crashes when using Symbology. It’s an annoying error because Symbology is one of the key features that we commonly use when making a map.
I was running on ArcGIS Pro 2.9 when I got this error. Then I updated to the latest 2.9.4. I haven’t upgraded to the 3.0 because I found it a bit buggy, so I stay on version 2.9.4. Even after updating to 2.9.4, I still found that ArcGIS Pro 2.9 crashes while opening the Symbology.
How to Fix
Fortunately, the fix is fairly easy. We need to install the .NET Framework 4.8.1. Please note that I am running Windows 10 and this also applies to Windows 11 users. Download and install the .NET Framework 4.8.1 below. Reboot your PC afterward.

Now the problem should be fixed. No more crashes when using Symbology. I hope this tip is useful and see you in the next article.
