Hello everyone, in this article, we will show you how to easily export raster to KMZ format in ArcGIS Pro. As you know, KMZ is a special file format that is commonly used in Google Earth. It consists of a KML file and other supporting files compressed using the zip utility. So we can include some spatial files in the KMZ file format including some rasters/images. In this example, I will export an image from ArcGIS Pro to a KMZ file so then we can open the KMZ in Google Earth.
First, we need to open the raster/image file in ArcGIS Pro. We will use the geoprocessing tool called “to KML”. The raster/image must have spatial information in it. If not, we first need to georeference the image before exporting it to the KMZ.
As you can see, I have loaded a forestry image raster into my ArcGIS Project. Now, let’s try to export the image to KMZ. Go to the Geoprocessing tab and then search for the Layer to KML tool. This tool will let us convert a layer into KML/KMZ format.
Drag or choose the image layer that we want to convert and then specify the Output file.
There are some options that we can set. For example, we can change the size (in pixels) of the output image as well as the DPI. Click the Run button to start the process.
Now, let’s open the KMZ file in Google Earth to see the result.
