Hello everyone, welcome to the Micromine Tutorial. Today, we are going to show you how to clip wireframes in Micromine. Imagine if you have a large wireframe (DTM), it will take a long time to open this data in Micromine. To solve this issue, we may cut or clip the large wireframe. By doing this way, we have a smaller area of the wireframe and it will load faster. I am using Micromine version 11. It is an old version but still usable. In order to use this clip wireframe feature, you must have Exploration and/or Wireframing module. Otherwise, this menu will not be available.
In this example, we are going to cut or clip a large wireframe to a smaller part using a string polygon. For this purpose, we need to have a DTM (Digital Terrain Model) or Wireframe. As you can see below, I have a wireframe opened in the Vizex. And then, I will cut or clip this wireframe against the blue rectangle.
Steps to Clip Wireframe in Micromine
Step 1. Open the original wireframe
It is good to have the original wireframe opened in Vizex. This way, we can easily check and compare the area we want to clip.
Step 2. Create the clipping boundary
In Micromine 11, we can use string or outline files to clip the wireframe. Please create a new string polyline or outline using the New String menu.
Make sure the string file is closed. Otherwise, we cannot use it to clip the wireframe properly. See the example below
Step 3. Clip the Wireframe
To clip the wireframe with the string, go to Wireframe | Cut. The Cut wireframe window will open up. Specify the input wireframe and output wireframe.
Next, go to the Cutting Profile tab. Here we need to specify the clipping string file.
Click Run and wait until the process completes.
