Hi everyone, in this article, we will learn how to convert contour to DEM using ArcGIS Pro. DEM stands for Digital Elevation Model. I would recommend this page to learn more about DEM. ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tools add more capability to ArcGIS Pro users. I am using ArcGIS for Personal Use and it comes with the geoprocessing tools I need for my work. In order to convert contour to DEM, we need to make sure that the contour layer has the elevation column. This column will be used to generate the topo raster.
Steps to Convert Contour to DEM using ArcGIS Pro
Step 1. Open the contour layer
As I mentioned above, we need a contour layer that contains an elevation column or field. For example, below is my contour layer fields
Step 2. Convert topo to raster
Now we are ready to convert the contour to a raster (DEM) file. To do this, we need Topo to Raster tool which is available through the Geoprocessing tab. Go to the Geoprocessing tab and then search for the “Topo to Raster” tool. It should be located under 3D Analyst Tool>>Raster>>Conversion>>Topo to Raster. And then we need to specify few things in the Topo to Raster window.
We need to specify the following things:
- Feature layer (the contour layer)
- Field (the elevation column)
- Type (Contour)
- Output (The layer name of the output DEM)
- Output Cell Size (Sepcify the output cell size you want)
Click Run and wait for the result. Finally, the DEM is now ready.
That’s it. Thanks for reading this article and see you next time.
