Hello everyone, welcome to Free GIS Tutorial website. Today we are going to learn how to create DTM from String file on Micromine. Micromine is a great GIS software that can easily convert or create DTM from string file. Before we can create DTM file, make sure you have Z information on the file. Z values can be elevation, geochemistry and other type of data. On this example, I have elevation contour string file I imported from Mapinfo.
This is the final product of the DTM file converted from the string file
Steps to Create DTM from String file on Micromine
Before we get started, make sure you have a string file with Z information on it. Now, go to DTM | Create Surface. The DTM Create window will open up.
- Specify the input file.
Don’t forget to specify the East, North and Z fields. - Now go to Processing option and check the option Define Projection Plane. In this example, I use Orthogonal.
- Finally, specify the output DTM file
- Click Run to start the process
Display DTM on Micromine
Once the conversion is completed, we can display the DTM on Micromine. Double Click Wireframe from the Vizex Forms, on the left panel.
Select the Wireframe Type and select the DTM name we created earlier. Click Draw Options to specify the DTM colouring.
Select 3D Shaded on the Draw Style to display the wireframe in 3D shaded style. Activate the option Use Colour Coding to enable the colour coding for our wireframe. Double click wireframe colour attribute and select Z. Right click Colour set and select Edit to define the colour set.
That’s it. Now you have a DTM (Wireframe) with colour displayed on Micromine. Please leave us comments if you have any questions.
