Welcome to another GIS Tutorial. Today, we are going to learn how to open PostGIS Database on Global Mapper 18.0. For your information, Global Mapper is a good GIS Software that supports almost any kind of GIS formats. I am using Global Mapper 18.0 full version and will share with you today. Before we can open a PostGIS database or tables, make sure you have a working PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension. You can read my previous article to setup and install PostGIS on Ubuntu 18.04. Steps to Open PostGIS Database on Global Mapper 18.0
Step 1. Connect to the database
First, we need to create a new connection to our PostGIS database. Go to File | Open Spatial Database. You will see the following window open up.
Click New to create a new spatial database connection. Select PostGIS Spatial Database from the list and then give a name for the connection. Enter the database information such as server IP address, port, database name, username and password.
Click Test Connection and make sure you can connect to the PostGIS database. Hit OK when done. Now your new connection is ready.
Select the PostGIS tables from the list and press OK. In a few moments, your PostGIS tables should be visible in Global Mapper.
