I was excited to upgrade my installation to the latest version of QGIS 3.28. Everything went well until I discovered a super annoying issue with this new version. Every time I try to browse for spatial files through the Browser pane, QGIS seems to struggle to list the files and folders. It keeps freezing for several seconds before showing the content of a folder. I never had this problem before.
I tried to re-install QGIS and even though I tried on a different computer, it’s the same. QGIS Browser is very slow. I think there are many QGIS users that had this issue. I checked on the internet, there are users that complain the QGIS Browser is very slow.
Re: [Qgis-user] project browser very, very slow (mail-archive.com)
I am not trying to open the network file. The file that I tried to open it in my local SSD. This is so frustrating. I looked in GIS StackExchange but still cannot find a workaround for this.
After a few moments, QGIS completely froze. I use a pretty decent PC for this.
- Intel Core i7 8700
- RAM 32GB
- RTX 3060 Ti graphic cards
Perhaps this is the time to give up on QGIS. ArcGIS Pro is the way to go.

December 13, 2022I have not had this issue. One thing to consider / review is whether or not you have all of your directories set to index or not. If you right click on one, you’ll see scanning and you can set it for fast or more in depth.

February 9, 2023Oh, I’ve been with 3.26, and everything is good. I think ArcGIS Pro is a purchase soft and must better. I used Arcgis Destop 10x, but now, Only Qgis!
