If you own an M1 Mac, and you want to spin up a Windows 11 on it, then you need to download the Windows 11 ISO ARM edition. Downloading Windows 11 ARM edition ISO file is not as easy as the x64 edition. Because basically, the Windows 11 ARM is not publicly available yet. There are several steps that we need to take in order to download the ISO file. Especially if you download from an Apple Silicon Mac. But don’t worry, I will guide you through all the steps to download Windows 11 ISO ARM edition.
To download Windows 11 ISO ARM edition from an M1 or M2 Mac, you will need to install the following software. This software is used to convert files into ISO format.
Steps to Download Windows 11 ISO ARM Edition
I use MacBook Pro M1 to download the Windows 11 ISO. So all the commands below are for Mac.
Go to uupdump website and search for Windows 11 ARM
Click the version that you want to download. Make sure you choose the arm64 architecture. And then, you will be redirected to the download website. Here we need to choose the package that we want.
Select the language from the list and click Next.
Select the Edition. There are two options, Windows Pro and Windows Home Edition
Configure the download options. There are some additional options that we can include in the download. In this example, I choose Download and convert to ISO and only include updates and uncheck the rest.
Click Create download package and it will download. You will get a folder called something like 25252.
Now open Terminal and cd to the folder we just downloaded. For example:
Make the script executable
sudo chmod +x uup_download_macos.sh
Finally, run the script to start downloading
The download process will start. You will see some fast moving texts on the Terminal. Wait until the download process completed.
Once the download is completed, you will have the ISO file in that folder. Now we can use the ISO to install Windows 11 on Apple Silicon Mac. Thank you for reading this article.
