Welcome to another tutorial of Micromine. In this article, we are going to learn how to import Shapefile into Micromine. On my previous article, you can see how to directly display Shapefile in Micromine without having to import it. This way has some limitation since we cannot edit the Shapefile in Micromine. But by importing the file to Micromine format, we will have the flexibility to modify the file within Micromine. Before we continue, you may want to check our Micromine Tutorials for Beginners.
Steps to Import Shapefile into Micromine
Step 1. Prepare the Shapefile
Before we can import the file, please keep in mind that the shapefile should contain polygon, polyline or points features. Also, make sure that the projection is correct. If you have a geographical projection, you will need to convert it to UTM projection.
Step 2. Import the Shapefile
Go to File >> Import >> CAD/GIS. The Import window will open up. Double click the Input file and browse to the shapefile you want to import. Next, specify the output file. You need to specify the file type (data, string, etc.). Additionally, you can also enable Import attributes to automatically import the attributes from the source file.
Click Run to start the import process. This import process can take long time depends on how big your data is.
After we import the shapefile to Micromine, we can then display it via Vizex. And the good thing is that we can now edit the file as it’s now in Micromine native format.
Thanks for reading this article, I hope you enjoy it and see you on the next Micromine Tutorials.
