The new MapInfo Pro supports GPX (GPS Exchange Format) file natively. We do not need any other third-party software in order to open and use it within MapInfo. In this article, I am going to show you how to import GPX file directly to MapInfo Pro. GPX is a special GIS format commonly used in today’s GPS devices. Garmin Map Source, BaseCamp, and Global Mapper are the common software you can use to process the GPX file format. But with the release of MapInfo Pro, you can directly import or export GPX files from the GPS. For more information about GPX, please read this wiki page.
Steps to Import GPX File in MapInfo Pro
In order to import the GPX file, do the following
- Open MapInfo Pro
- Click GPS Tab
- Click Import GPX File button
- Specify the Input and output file. The Input file should be the GPX file and the output file usually Mapinfo Table (.tab)
- You can change some settings through the Options tab.
Once the import process completes, you should see your imported file in MapInfo window.
Using this method, you can download and import the following features from the GPS:
- Waypoints
- Routes
- Tracks
- Routepoints
- Trackpoints
Thank you for reading this article, I hope you enjoy it. See you on the next tutorials.

January 30, 2020My Import GPX File button comes up with a message ‘This tool is disabled. Import waypoint, track and route files’. Press F1 for more help. No help there. Any ideas how I can enable the button.
The Export GPX File button works fine.
